A reshipping offer is different from an ordinary remote administration job

A job advertisement may describe handling parcels as simple home-based administration while leaving the source of goods and responsibility unclear. Read the actual actions requested. FTC job-scam guidance identifies reshipping arrangements as a serious warning pattern, so do not let a convenient remote-work label hide the task itself.

Describe the actual parcel task → Verify through independent sources → Stop unexplained intermediary work

Write the actions in plain language

List whether you are asked to receive packages, remove labels, repackage goods or send them elsewhere. Compare that with the role originally advertised. A vague coordinator title should not obscure physical handling and identity exposure. FTC guidance discusses reshipping scams rather than treating every remote label as genuine work. Do not assume an offer is legitimate because it supplies detailed instructions, a contract-looking document or a professional website.

Verify independently before sharing information

Use known official sources to establish the organization and the actual opportunity, rather than relying only on numbers or links in the message. Be cautious with requests for identity documents, home address and account details before legitimacy is established. A supposed interview that merely repeats the same unverified contact does not provide independent confirmation. Do not accept unexpected parcels or forward goods to see whether a promised wage eventually appears.

Avoid becoming a payment or delivery intermediary

An offer can shift risk to the person at home while obscuring who acquired the goods. Do not use your own money, accounts or shipping identity to solve unexplained problems for an unverified recruiter. A promise that everything is authorized is not a substitute for reliable verification. If goods have already arrived, seek appropriate official guidance rather than improvising disposal, forwarding or a private confrontation. The right route depends on the actual facts and location.

Keep the record factual

Save the advertisement, messages, claimed company details and any relevant shipment information privately. Report through suitable official channels when appropriate and avoid exposing other people's personal data publicly. Do not treat a stranger's offer to recover unpaid wages for a fee as a verified solution. The goal is to interrupt an unsafe arrangement and obtain reliable help, without promising a particular legal outcome or declaring the facts of an individual case from a short advertisement alone.

Illustrative worked example

Illustrative scenario: a remote administrative role changes after contact and now requires receiving parcels, removing original labels and forwarding them under a personal address. The applicant recognizes the requested actions as materially different from the advertised role and stops before providing further information. They keep the messages and use appropriate guidance rather than testing the offer by forwarding one package.

Questions that come up

Does a signed-looking contract prove the job is legitimate?

No. A document supplied by an unverified party is another claim to assess, not independent proof of the organization or arrangement.

Should I forward a package to complete the trial?

Do not test an unverified reshipping offer that way. Seek appropriate official guidance, especially if goods or personal information are already involved.
